We serviced a customer in Nassau County, NY this past Friday who was having
sewer problems. After numerous visits from we're guessing a handyman "
sewer cleaner", due to the way it was handled, the customer was referred from a previous customer of ours. The customer had a
sewer clog and was being charged every month for this handyman person to come out and insert one of those expandable bladders that you hook up to a garden hose to clear the line. We're not talking about 25 or 50 dollars per visit but over 150 for 10 minutes every time he came out to the point where it was every couple of weeks. Well we explained to the customer that by putting in an expandable bag to
clear the sewer the only thing that was being cleared was the toilet paper that had attached itself to the
tree roots that has been growing in the sewer line. If you've ever just turned on the hose without inserting the bag into the sewer line you will see that there really is not a whole lot of water pressure coming out of the bag like how a
sewer water jet operates. Anyway the whole time this was going on the
roots in the sewer line just continued to grow. We were able to clear the sewer after a few times back and forth then inserted the
sewer camera and this is what we found, just as we had suspected, tree roots. This pic is sideways. The area showing roots is actually the top of the pipe.
It's fortunate for the customer that the continued growth of the roots had not caused a collapse or a crack anywhere else. This spot in the sewer is right at the curb line and jobs involving digging in the street can get very costly due to jack hammering, dumpster rentals, asphalt repairs & traffic plates. If you're having
problems with a sewer clog once per year because of roots that's one thing but if it starts to become a problem every 3 months or so then you really should be taking action and putting in a
sewer camera and seeing what is going on in there. Unfortunately this customer was being taken advantage of by this handyman "
sewer cleaner". We're happy that we were able to help and educate. Our other services besides sewer cleaning include in-house
