Sewer & Drain Cleaning Plumber | Nassau County | Suffolk County | Long Island | New York

We went out to a customer's home this morning for a clogged sewer. This sewer line was serviced by another sewer and drain cleaning company 2 months ago. We removed the out going cap on the sewer trap and did not have any water backing up so we loosened the sewer trap in cap and could see it starting to lea out so we knew we had a trap stoppage. We snaked through the sewer trap to clear the stoppage but didn't quite feel right. We put on the long gloves and reached in the trap and pulled out another cap that was left inside there (Bottom Of Pic). This is the inner part of the cap minus the lead which are usually called Fit All Plugs due to the lead ring around the cap which will mold itself into the sewer trap opening. The original cap material on most sewers were brass but over time the threads on the sewer trap start to wear and a brass cap can no longer grab well enough to be threaded on. We used our sewer camera to inspect the rest of the line in and out to the street to find yet one more stoppage starting to form due to a root mass 40 feet from the trap. We used a 6 inch blade to scrape it out, showed our customer a clean sewer line and were on our way.

Sewer Line Drain Cleaning Service | Nassau | Suffolk | County | Long Island | NY

I did a sewer cleaning job January 2, 2015 in Massapequa Park, NY. This sewer line was last cleaned about 5 years ago according to the customer. He told me that the plumber pulled the toilet to clear the clogged sewer that was backing up on the street side of the sewer trap. Let's start off by saying that only a half inch size sewer snake cable with only a 1 1/2 or 2 inch blade will be flexible enough to make it around the trap from a pulled toilet but will never be strong enough to tear off a good amount of roots that are penetrating the sewer pipe at the joints. It appeared that this customer possibly lived alone and if that was the case and the line is slow to drain, it may be a long time for that person to use enough water to fill that entire line with water to notice any type of sewer back up. Sometimes you do get lucky and will rip off the entire root even with a 2 or 3 inch blade. Well this sewer line took 5 years to back up again but by the size of the roots penetrating the sewer joints I would say that this sewer line has been slow draining for a very long time without any notice by the owner if he was the sole occupant of the house. Anyway, I'll let you be the judge on the pics below. This is why we use a sewer camera on all sewer cleaning jobs. We DO NOT like going back on a job and we want to show the customer that the job was done correctly. This sewer line was 62 feet long and we were pushing this large root mass from 25 feet into the line. Took about 75 minutes with a 6 inch root cutting sewer blade but with excellent results. I gave this customer a year guarantee and informed him to do some yearly sewer maintenance. If you have had roots pulled out of your sewer before then they are always going to come back unless the sewer is repaired or the source is found. This pic is from a sewer job on Long Island, New York earlier in this month.(Picture is upside down) Customer's house was remodeled and moved back into 6 months ago. Was having repeated problems in the branch line for the last 4 months. Called us out for a sewer cleaning service and a sewer camera inspection to further evaluate. We found pieces of cast iron pipe catching waste and paper. Customer then remembered a toilet flange that was replaced and raised to accommodate a new tile floor. End result was a sewer jetting of the sewer branch to remove a total of 10 good sized pieces of pipe. Customer viewed camera after sewer jetting and was very pleased. Sewer line completely cleaned. Job was guaranteed for 1 year.

Tree roots account for 90% of all the sewer calls that we go and service. We can clear up a great amount of the roots that are growing into your sewer line if there are no severe offsets at the joints. Offsets are 2 pieces of misaligned pipes which are often caused by soil erosion from a leaking joint or roots pushing against a section of pipe at the joint. Once your sewer is infested from roots it is always going to be an ongoing issue until either the sewer is dug up and repaired and the roots are cut back from the backhoe while digging it up or if the tree source is known and removed. Even with removal of the source the remaining roots can continue to grow for the next few years. Below are a couple of pictures of a sewer before and after we cleaned it with a sewer cable machine. This customer's last sewer cleaning was back in the year 2000. It made a real mess in their basement and ruined a lot of personal property that was stored there. Also if you are spending money on these chemicals that kill roots in your sewer then I would suggest using a foaming agent that will reach the top of the sewer pipe where 90% of root infestation begins. Clogged Drain Service | Clogged Sewer Service | Nassau County | Suffolk County | Long Island | New York

We went out to a job today which we thought would be a simple sewer cleaning call. As it turned out this sewer was in poor condition with multiple separations and cracks. The homeowner only noticed a backup today when doing laundry. By the looks of this sewer line as viewed on the sewer camera and the amount of toilet paper that was clogging this sewer, more than likely there has been a clog for at least a month or longer and water was slowly draining out making it undetectable until enough paper and waste had completely clogged the sewer. We were able to clear out the sewer but a 40 foot sewer replacement was going to be needed. Customer was informed and viewed the camera as we showed all of the different sections of this sewer causing problems. Because our prices are very affordable, this customer had us locate and mark out the sewer so they could get estimates on a replacement. By having us do the mark out of the sewer line this customer has already saved money and will be able to have any plumbing contractor come and give an estimate without having to pay an additional charge for more camera work and locating. We've even been to customers homes where the sewer company they hired came in with a toilet auger to CLEAR the sewer.(Toilet Auger- It's a 3 foot snake that is used ONLY to unclog a toilet.) How long your sewer stays open is going to be determined on how well it was cleaned, especially if your sewer is clogged from tree roots.

This past week we were called out by a contractor to a job in Bellmore, NY to inspect a sewer with our camera as requested by the homeowner. This home was hit pretty hard by Hurricane Sandy. The concrete slab in the garage was removed due to several cracks so the homeowner wanted to be sure the sewer was ok before a new slab was poured. It's a good thing that they had this sewer camera inspection service done because unfortunately we found that a connection by the bathroom had separated and needed to be repaired. This homeowner although had added costs to repair the sewer line they actually saved themselves thousands had they not had this service done by having the slab poured then to find out after the fact that the sewer was separated.
